Review of effects of anti-VEGF treatment on refractive error
نویسندگان
چکیده
To examine the effect of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents on refractive error in the setting of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) through a review of the literature, a PubMed search was performed of appropriate search terms, and the results of all relevant studies were extracted and compiled. Eleven relevant articles were identified in the literature, totaling 466 eyes, treated with varied anti-VEGF agents (bevacizumab, ranibizumab, and aflibercept) with mean spherical equivalent refractions ranging from +0.75 D to -3.57 D, with prevalence of high myopia ranging from 0 to 35%. Anti-VEGF monotherapy for ROP leads to low levels of myopia, and there may be a differential effect of specific anti-VEGF agents utilized on refractive outcomes.

Refractive outcomes following the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity in the anti-VEGF era: a literature review.
A growing body of evidence indicates that antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy is effective in the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). We conducted a comprehensive literature review on refractive outcomes of anti-VEGF treatments compared to laser treatment or a combination of laser therapy and anti-VEGF injections. Of the 9 studies analyzed, the final mean refractive...

Background and objectives: Severe burn damage and its consequences are life threatening which can complicate patients’ health. Burn damage increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation which leads to severe damage to tissues and is implicated in burn shock. Some medicinal and traditional plants are considered as safe, natural and inexpensive sources for treatment of differ...

Background: To present an overview of the pharmacologic treatment of pseudophakic macular edema. Methods: A systematic review of the currently accepted pharmacologic treatments for pseudophakic macular edema. Main outcome parameters include visual acuity and central macular thickness as determined by ocular coherence tomography. Articles retrieved by Pubmed search using keywords pseudophaki...

Objective: Remote Ischemic Preconditioning (RIPC) as the transient ischemia and reperfusion of the arm is a promising method for protecting different tissue from future ischemia. These effects might be mediated through vascular and endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway. We investigated the influence of RIPC on diabetic macular edema (DME) as a chronic ischemic condition in patients who were ...
متن کاملEffect of Propranolol on Angiogenic Factors in Human Hematopoietic Cell Lines in vitro
Background: Beta-adrenergic blocking agents have been broadly used for treatment of many cardiovascular diseases such as arterial hypertension and ischemic heart failure. Anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenesis effects of propranolol (a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker) have been shown. Angiogenesis (replenish of the pre-existing vascular networks) plays a critical role in s...
